Bulli Hospital provides inpatient, outpatient and allied health services, as well as the Urgent Care Centre.

The Bulli Urgent Care Centre provides treatment for minor injury and illness, similar to a GP. The nurse-led model of care enables patients to be seen and assessed by specialist nurses who, in consultation with medical teams, deliver treatment and management plans for patients.

Problem:

The previous access pathway to the hospitals air-conditioning unit was not safely accessible for contractors when visiting for services and maintenance. This created a dangerous workplace hazard and reduced a capacity for contractors to complete work in a safe manner.

1. Access

  • Uneven surfaces
  • Native garden to protect

2. Safety:

  • Slip risk due to weather/ environmental factors
  • No clear access pathway

3. Servicing:

  • Contractors’ safety is paramount to service due to liability risks – causing decline in service

Solutions:

Design:

  • Create a design that does not interfere the current garden landscaping and vegetation
  • Create a safer access pathway that minimises occupational health and safety hazards.

Build:

  • Have the components for the structure prefabricated and cut before delivery onsite.
  • Ensure all parts of construction are ready for safe transport.
  • Have a complete instruction guide available for build.

Install:

  • Install the construction in a timely manner to reduce down time on accessibility.
  • Be cost and time efficient.
  • Ensure no vegetation damage and the outcome of the product is aesthetically pleasing.

Project Outcome:

We built a raised path and bridge from FRP Grating and Structural Members. Ultimately, we provided a final product which is non-corrosive, low maintenance, safe, aesthetic, smooth and provides access with minimised risks. The result created a safer access point to the air-conditioning unit with no disruptions or damages to the native gardens.

Reduced:

  • Down time from installation and hazard risks.

Increased:

  • Safety for maintenance contractors via accessibility.

Appeal:

  • Made the structure visually aesthetically appealing to the public eye.
