Who the project was for:
This project was created for the general public and children of Alkimos and surrounds in collaboration with IronClad WA.

Location:
Alkimos, Western Australia
Purpose:
Creating a safe play structure floor surface for children and users of the playground.
Problem:
- Risk of children tripping and falling over during their play, so the product needed to be as minimally abrasive as possible but also maintain the ability for traction to reduce slippage.
- The technicality of design needed to consider the risks of children’s small fingers getting caught in the holes of the FRP.
- The environment is external and high traffic with rough use from children, additionally elevated also, so the tensile strength for rebound and bouncing needed to be superior for safety.
- Parks can be a noisy place, so the flooring needed to reduce some of that play related noise.
1. Reduce:
- Reduce OHS risks for children playing – such as slips, trips, abrasions, trapped fingers, etc.
- Reduce noise transfer from little feet bouncing and running on the flooring.
2. Design:
- Choosing a grit that would be suitable for the wet slip conditions and fast-moving little kiddos.
- Sits above the ground, so loading point and tensile strength needed to withstand the bounces of children.
- Needs to be bright, fun and allow for air-flow.
3. Longevity:
- Make sure the new structures withstand the weather and outdoor environment exposure.
- Withstand foot traffic with heavy feet and frequent use.
Solutions:
Design:
- The discussion was had about the practicality of FRP, how quick it is to manufacture, freight and install, plus the long lifespan and noise reduction it can create.
- Selected colours, width and grit.
Install:
- Install was done collaboratively by a third party who we communicated with throughout the process.
- We had supplied panels at spec, with quick transportation of product due to its lightness.
The Future:
- This project will see a long-lasting lifetime of minimal maintenance for high reward fun times in the community.
- Less risk of injury for the users.
Project Outcome:
We refurbished the donga access floorings in a quick manner and created a safer and clean environment for the users.

- The strength of the flooring shows much less wear potential.
- The noise reduction is significant to alternative products.
- Quick installation from third party, with no compromise on quality.
- Reduced OHS Risk Rating.
- Safer playground for many generations to come.

Install:
- The install was succesfully completed by the third part with our support.
Withstand:
- The product is beyond tough enough to withstand the environments conditions and use from person traffic.
