Location: Coomera, Beenleigh & Mackay, Queensland

Project Date: November 2023

Objective: Provide safe access platforms for four Boral sites throughout QLD.

Challenges: The raised access platforms we are upgrading need to allow operators to safely wash out cement trucks, along with supporting their ability to add chemical cleaning agents into the agitators.

The operators need to be elevated to a safe height where access to the opening of the mixer bell can be achieved safely from a fixed elevated platform.

As there are four different sites, each platform needed to be designed and constructed to suit site specific location restraints. We needed to work in a manner that allowed our solution to be constructed by Boral approved contractors.

Solution We Created: The construction of the platform from FRP structural members has created an increased the lifespan of the platform, allowing it to be free of corrosion and burn chemical erosion which would otherwise be typical caused by the constant contact with cement; meaning over time there is less maintenance required, it will be budget effective and far less likely to develop structural hazards over time.

To achieve the need of works to be able to coordinate with Boral approved construction contractors, we ensured each platform was constructed within our Wollongong workshop, where we matched and marked all of our components and created an installation manual for assembly included with each platform. All four platforms were delivered with Grating FRP Australia personnel, ensuring each location still received our assistance in the construction of their platform arrangement.
