Why build a viewing platform at Port Kembla beach?

The project is part of Council’s continued upgrade work to the foreshore program from Port Kembla beach, through King George V precinct to MM beach. The viewing platform provides a meeting place for the community and a further visitor destination for cyclists and pedestrians. The viewing platform with link to the Grand Pacific walk via a flat even path and include shade and improved seating.

How did the project originate?

The project was funded under round three of the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund (PKCIF). The NSW government established the investment fund as an ongoing program linked to the long-term lease of Port Kembla.

The fund program aims to activate, enhance and build community amenity in the suburb of Port Kembla.

Where will the viewing platform be located and how big will it be?

The viewing platform is located adjacent to Port Kembla Surf Life Saving Club car park off Cowper St, overlooking Port Kembla beach and connected to the Grand Pacific Walk shared path. The size of the viewing platform with shade structure is estimated to be 16 metres long and 7.5 metres wide, it also includes improved seating. The location is a popular look out area for surfers and visitors.
