Who the project was for:
At Everlasting PTY LTD., Rob and his wife Jennifer run 3000 hectares of farm land, located in Kojonup – Western Australia’s Great Southern region; where they carved the land into zones dedicated to Merino sheep, canola, wheat, barley and native wildflowers called everlastings.

Purpose:
Refurbishment of Shearing Shed Floor
Problem:
- Noise created by previous timber flooring and the echo in the shearing quaters caused stress for the sheep when arriving in to be shawn.
- The current layout for the shearing floor and sheep run entrance were not practical.
- The current floor condition was an occupational health and safety risk for the shear workers as well as the sheep.
1. Reduce:
- Noise needed reduction for sheep.
- Reduce OSH risks.
2. Design:
- Consider the way sheep move through the space – where, when and how.
3. Safety:
- Consider the grit on floor spaces for the practice for both animals and workers.
Solutions:
Design:
- We had a team member visit site and measure the flooring space (134 square meters).
- The discussion was had about the practicality of FRP, how quick it is to clean, the lifespan and noise reduction it can create.
- Selected colours and grit.
Divide:
- Divided shed into zones to give a practical spaces for both the workers animals to move through.
- A reduction in safety risk was created as we selected a grit finish in the main run to prevent slip of animals, and a smooth grit in shearing space to prevent tearing of wool.
Down-Time:
- Installation began 2 weeks after initial contact for quote and design.
- We had a quick transportation of product due to its lightness.
- Full installation completed and ready within 7 days of project start.
Project Outcome:
We refurbished the shearing shed floor in a quick manner and recreated a more practical and safer environment for the sheep and shearers to be efficient.
- Sheep move through the space better.
- The strength of the flooring shows much less wear and no damages.
- The noise reduction is significant to previous, showing as a calmness in the animals.
- With less noise produced from the shed flooring, shear workers have noticed and appreciated the difference.
Delivery:
- The delivery of the product was regional. It needed to be designed for practical delivery and be easy to handle; we did just that!
Install:
- The install caused minimal disruption to the farmers working space.
Withstand:
- The product is beyond tough enough to withstand the environments working conditions and use from persons and animal traffic.
